Family Arraigo Residency Approved Within 30 Days (Real Case)

There are moments in life when relocation becomes something deeply personal. For Greta, everything changed the moment she learned that her father’s health had become increasingly delicate in Spain. Living in the United States at the time, she did not hesitate for a second. Her priority was clear: to be by his side, care for him, and make sure they could spend that time together as a family.

But achieving that goal legally was not simply a matter of booking a flight. Greta needed a legal pathway that would allow her to remain in Spain long-term while accompanying and supporting her father during a vulnerable moment in his life.

What initially felt emotionally overwhelming eventually became one of the most meaningful cases handled by our legal team at Relocation for Expats.

And within just 30 days of filing the application, Greta received a favorable resolution granting her a Temporary Residency for Family Arraigo (“Residencia Temporal por Razones de Arraigo Familiar”) valid until 2031. Less waiting time. More time together.

What Is Family Arraigo Residency in Spain?

Family Arraigo is a type of temporary residency authorization regulated under Spain’s immigration framework for individuals with qualifying family ties or humanitarian circumstances connected to Spain.

Under the current immigration regulation — approved through Royal Decree 1155/2024 of November 19th — this residency falls under the broader category of Residencia Temporal por Razones de Arraigo.

In Greta’s case, the resolution expressly stated that the requirements established under Articles 126 and 127 of the Regulation had been successfully accredited, allowing the Subdelegation of Government to grant the residence authorization.

Another important detail many foreigners are unaware of is that, under Article 131 of RD 1155/2024, this type of residency authorization automatically allows the holder to work both as an employee (por cuenta ajena) and as self-employed (por cuenta propia), without requiring any additional work authorization procedure.

For many applicants, this becomes a life-changing opportunity not only to remain legally in Spain, but also to rebuild stability and independence while staying close to their loved ones.

Building the Legal Strategy Behind the Case

Although Greta was emotionally prepared to wait as long as necessary, the strategy behind the case became essential in reducing delays and avoiding unnecessary complications.

Our legal team at Relocation for Expats, led by Carlos Andrés Blanco Rey and María Sofía Mejail, carefully structured the application file with a highly personalized approach.

Because Greta and her father are American and German nationals, respectively, the case required gathering and organizing multilingual civil documentation, along with detailed medical reports related to her father’s health condition.

Interestingly, thanks to the strength and consistency of the medical documentation submitted, it was not necessary to pursue additional disability certification procedures that are often requested or expected in similar situations.

The process focused not only on preparing the documentation correctly, but also on presenting the family’s situation in a legally solid, coherent, and human way.

For Greta, the approval represented much more than immigration status. It meant peace of mind. No longer having to live with uncertainty while trying to care for her father abroad. And it meant being able to continue building a life together in Spain without fear of time running out.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for handling this process with so much compassion, patience, understanding, and care. Your work has been exceptional, and you cannot imagine how important this is for me. Now I simply want to travel with my father and enjoy the time we still have together.” Greta shared emotionally after receiving the favorable resolution.

Following the approval, our team also continued accompanying her through the next stage of the process: obtaining her TIE (Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero), which formally documents her residency in Spain.

Why Personalized Legal Strategy Matters

One of the biggest misconceptions many foreigners have about Spanish immigration processes is assuming that every case follows the same formula.

In reality, immigration law in Spain often depends heavily on:

  • how the case is structured
  • the legal pathway selected
  • the quality of the documentation
  • and the ability to present the applicant’s situation coherently and strategically

Two cases may appear similar on paper while requiring completely different legal approaches.

That is why personalized legal guidance can make a significant difference — not only in the outcome itself, but also in the waiting time, emotional stress, and overall experience for the applicant and their family.

At Relocation for Expats, we understand that behind every immigration file there is usually something much more human: family, stability, care, and the desire to remain close to the people who matter most.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful thing immigration law can provide is simply more time together. Need help applying for a Family Arraigo Residency in Spain? Feel free to contact us, we are here to help you.
